The Iron Giant

As a part of my CGI Production, we were required to select a robot from a list or robots to model, texture, rig and blend the character into a scene. I choose to do the Iron Giant since it was a interesting character to me and I wanted to challenge myself in the nailing the accuracies of this model.
I started with blocking since it was relatively straight-forward and its simple design complemented that. I really enjoyed modelling this character as alot of the parts made alot of sense in terms of the movement of the robot.
After that, I took the block and modelled out all the important details. It was then onto rigging. I created joints and named the joints accordingly and rearranged them according to a hierarchy. After that, I setup and IK and FK (for animation) rig for model.
I also wanted to challenge myself and created a diorama to place the robot on. I modelled the low poly assets and created the ground using a noise texture which I tend sculpted to resemble a junkyard.
After unwrapping, I brought the Iron Giant into substance where I spent a large majority of this project time on. My main vision of this robot was there to be some wear and tear in certain areas. I spent a lot of time getting the different contrast of the metal on different parts of the robot to complement each other.
After when I was satisfied with the texturing I moved onto to creating a loopable walkcycle. I animated this robot at 25 frames at only 50 frames. I am very satisfed with how it turned out!
